The text in an image presents several challenges: the word choice needs to be optimized for the space available, spelling errors found and corrected, and so on.
The TGA is in development by an 18-member multidisciplinary research team at the University of Washington.
The TGA will be able to perform many tasks including (1) digital image acquisition, (2) image classification, (3) segmentation of the image into text blocks and graphics only, (4) optical character recognition (OCR) and Braille translation, (5) image simplification, (6) image layout, and (7) image output into a tactile form.
